The True Giver

The Giver is a 1993 American young adult dystopian novel by Lois Lowry. It is set in a society that at first appears to be utopian but is revealed to be dystopian as the story progresses. The novel follows a 12-year-old boy named Jonas. Society has taken away pain and strife by converting to "Sameness", a plan that has also eradicated emotional depth from their lives. (Wikipedia)

Jonas is selected to inherit the position of the Receiver of Memory, the person who stores all the memories of the time before Sameness, as there may be times where one must draw upon the wisdom gained from history to aid the community's decision making. The other jobs consist of the birth mother, engineer, assistant, and director of the creation, rehabilitation center worker, food production, caretaker of the old, doctor, nurturer, instructor of the different age groups, representative of the department of justice, speaker, and chief of elder.

I was nominated by my classmate to be The Receiver of Memory. I admired that they put the right man in the right job. I would be very suited for this task because I always win spelling bee competitions and fast memorizing Latin words is one of my talents. I love to analyze complex problems and provide creative solutions. Everybody's memory as a useful database and occupy people's hearts are to achieve my next plan, building a freedom community. I feel very honored to be assigned this job. I get the permission to read special books that the other couldn't, but I have to be separated from the rest of the community. It is an acceptable condition for me, although I will be lonely from being isolated and suffer from the abundant data. To be isolated doesn't mean stop me loving someone. I do not expect to do this job for the rest of my life. I want to release myself with someone who is truly love me to build a new community.

In the end, the writer lets the reader imagine Jonas "Die" or "Survive". I choose "he is death because life is not always happy ending, it should be meaningful instead. I accept tons of short pain and just small sacrifice consequence to a long and giant impact to the community."

The real and best meaning of love for me is that I give someone the power to destroy me but I trust her not to, The True Giver.
